HOW YOUR CHATS ARE HANDLED

Personal.
And kept that way.

You should know what happens to a conversation before you bring it into Relive. Here is how the current development version works.

Updated 11 October 2026 · Current app behaviour, not a security certification

Does Relive upload my conversations?

The app’s import flow reads and organises the file on your device. It does not upload your chat messages or imported attachments to Relive servers, and it does not send them to an AI service for analysis or training.

Relive uses an export you choose. It does not connect to your live WhatsApp inbox or send messages to the people in it.

Are my messages stored or written anywhere?

Yes—on your device. The app saves a local copy of imported messages, supported media, chat details, and which days you have viewed. This lets you reopen your memories without importing the file again.

Importing and sharing can also create temporary files. The original WhatsApp export stays wherever you saved it. Relive currently has no “view once without saving” mode.

Are those local files encrypted?

The current app has not added its own encryption layer to the saved chat files. Device and operating-system protections are separate from app-level encryption. We are not claiming that these archives are end-to-end encrypted or protected by a Relive biometric lock.

Could a device backup contain my chats?

Potentially. Local storage is not a guarantee that data never appears in an iCloud, Android, computer, or device-transfer backup. Backup exclusions have not yet been verified for this development build.

A release-ready backup choice needs to balance privacy with the risk of losing irreplaceable conversations. Keep your original export somewhere you trust.

What happens if I delete a chat?

The current delete action removes that chat’s active message file, viewed-day history, and imported media from Relive. It does not delete your original export, anything you previously shared, or copies already in a backup.

Cleanup of temporary import files, shared images, and older app storage still needs strengthening. We do not promise complete erasure of every copy.

What if I choose to share a memory?

Relive can send selected text or a generated image through your device’s share sheet. When you choose a destination, that copy leaves Relive and is handled by the service or person you selected.

What about this website?

All the chat examples here are fictional. This website has no chat-upload form; trying a sample does not read your messages or files.

Visiting the site still makes normal web requests to its hosting provider and font provider. The app’s on-device import behaviour is not a promise that this website has no network activity or server logs.

What would make the privacy promise stronger?

Before launch, the priorities are encrypted local storage, an optional app lock, verified backup controls, thorough temporary-file cleanup, and testing a release build for unexpected network traffic. These are planned safeguards, not features already available.

Privacy should be supported by the app’s behaviour and testing, as well as the words on this page.
